AIQ Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy 18 Days Training
TARGET CANDIDATES
Candidates will broaden their knowledge of anatomy, physiology and exercise delivery to allow them to assess and treat soft tissue dysfunction and provide post treatment advice. The course is designed for:

  • All exercise and fitness professionals wishing to perform sports massage therapy with adults
  • Personal Fitness Trainers


Introduction
The AIQ Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy is a vocationally related qualification (VRQ), Level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework.
Candidates will expand their knowledge of anatomy and physiology and exercise deliver to assess and treat soft tissue dysfunction and provide post care advice to adults.

PREREQUISITES

  • Qualification(s) in basic anatomy, physiology and exercise techinques equivalent to Level 2, e.g. o Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction or equivalent
  • There is an element of communication involved (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) and candidates should therefore have basic communication skills pitched at Level 3
  • Performing sports massage is a physical activity and candidates will need to be fit enough to carry this out

A first aid qualification, minimum First Aid Appointed Persons

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course consists of six mandatory three-day course units covering the following areas:

  • Clinical issues including safe treatment, regulation, professionalism and ethics, continuing professional development and communication
  • Anatomy and physiology in the integumentary, neuro-endocrine, lymphatic and musculoskeletal systems
  • Sports massage techniques
  • Assessment of clients and appropriate record keeping
  • Soft tissue damage and repair – injury occurrence and treatment
  • Post care advice – support client function

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
Assessment will take place during the course as follows:

  • Unit 1: Clinical Issues in Sports Massage

o Internal theory paper on clinical issues

o Practical assessment of communication skills

  • Unit 2: Furthur Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Massage

o External theory paper on further anatomy and physiology

o Internal theory paper on joints

o Practical assessment of musculoskeletal knowledge

  • Unit 3: Sports Massage Techniques

o Practical assessment of massage techniques

  • Unit 4: Assessment of the Client for Sports Massage

o Case study: completion of client record card

o Practical assessment of client assessment

  • Unit 5: Soft Tissue Injury and Repair

o Internal theory paper on injury and repair

  • Unit 6: Post Care Advice following Sports Massage

o Internal theory paper on post care and advice

o Practical assessment of post care advice

Note: practical assessments are through observation of your performance during 15 minute treatments followed by oral questioning.

Fees for places on two or one day courses cancelled less than 15 working days prior to course date will not be refunded.

Fees for places on courses over two days:
Cancellations 84 days or more before course start date, full refund of course fees. Where a deposit has been paid that includes a course, which the student has already completed, then the full fee of the completed course will be deducted from the deposit.
Cancellations less than 83 days, and more than 56 days prior to course, no refund of deposit.
Cancellations less than 55 days and more than 30 days, before course start date no refund of deposit and 50% of balance of total course fees payable due
Cancellations 29 days or less before the course, full fees due.
Course places are not usually transferable
