Module 3
A weekend designed to enable participant undergraduate and graduate Physiotherapists to fully engage in the AIQ material in preparation for the AIQ exam weekend

Module 4
The AIQ theory and practical exam weekend.
The AIQ Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage is NQF, QCA, and Sports Massage Association(SMA) recognised for full membership

ACPSM recommend that HPC Physiotherapists join the SMA.
SMA membership is also often a requirement in advertised sports Physiotherapist jobs

AIQ are recognised by the Sports Massage Association for full membership, the FHT and BCMA

Successful completion of all 6 AIQ unit exams ( pass mark on each exam, 70% ) leads to a nationally recognised qualification in sports massage. Undergraduate Physiotherapists successfully completing all unit exams, and gaining certification, can work as a sports massage practitioner, while they continue with their studies. This training is a foundation for all undergraduates and recent graduate Physiotherapists planning to work in MSK or with sports teams

Module 3 assists the Physio to review and revise the AIQ course units and trains profiling, injuries, exercise prescription. Classroom style lectures, mock exams, experiential & practical fun training.
Home study and practice is required between modules 3 & 4.
Participants are assisted to fully engage in the material to prepare for the AIQ exam weekend.

Entry Requirement
Undergraduate Physiotherapist from year 2, or qualified HPC registered Physiotherapists who have completed Modules 1 & 2
Evidence must be produced to show that applicants have completed a minimum log of 25 hours practice with a variety of clients, prior to attending module 3.

A first aid certificate is recommended for independent practice.

Module 4 : EXAM WEEKEND
Exams are sat at minimum 6 weeks after module 3 to enable participants on the course to revise, practice with mock papers, complete 6 case studies and log 35 hours additional sport specific massage practice hours

The exams for all 6 units of the AIQ certification must be successfully completed for participants to achieve the AIQ certificate.There is a 70% pass mark for each unit exams.

  • Unit 1:Clinical Issues in Sports Massage

o Exam 1 : Short answer worksheet on clinical issues

  • Unit 2: Further Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Massage

o Exam 2: Multiple choice paper on neuroendocrine, lymphatics, and integumentary system

o Exam 3: 40 question, short answer theory paper on anatomy and joints

  • Unit 3: Sports Massage Techniques

o Exam 4: Practical: Assessment of massage techniques

o Exam 4: Practical: Assessment of musculoskeletal knowledge

  • Unit 4: Assessment of the Client for Sports Massage

o Exam 5: Case study: Assessment of Completion of Client Record Card, Massage & Advice

o Exam 4: Practical : Assessment of client

  • Unit 5: Soft Tissue Injury and Repair

o Exam 5: Internal 40 question short answer theory paper on soft tissue injuries & repair

  • Unit 6: Post Care Advice following Sports Massage

o Exam 6: Internal worksheet on post care and advice

o Exam 4: Practical : Assessment of post care advice

Note on Exam 4 : This is a practical assessment, completed through observation of your performance during a 60 minute exam, which comprises a simulated first consultation with a client, sports massage treatment, and post care advice. The exam includes oral questioning on musculoskeletal knowledge, massage techniques, and post care advice

Foundation Skills & Bridge to Practice can be taken as stand alone modules

Modules 3 & 4 can be booked together for £350

Exam Fees & Retakes:
In the unlikely event that an individual fails an exam, and needs to retake, a resit fee will be charged.
Individuals will need to return to the centre at a later exam weekend.
Exams 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 resits : cost £20 for the first retake for each exam paper, and £40 for a second retake per paper.
Practical Exams 4 & Exam 5 Case Study: Resit cost £70 per exam

Wherever possible we endeavour to enable individuals who are not able to complete a course due to accident or injury, the possibility to complete a course at a later date. However, where this involves additional cost, then these costs will be passed to the individual.

Deposits and course fees are generally non refundable, and all refunds on course fees are at the discretion of the Course Principal.
Fees for places on two or one day courses cancelled less than 15 working days prior to course date will not be refunded.

Fees for places on courses over two days:
Cancellations 84 days or more before course start date, full refund of course fees.
Where a deposit has been paid that includes a course, which the student has already completed, then the full fee of the completed course will be deducted from the deposit.
Cancellations less than 83 days, and more than 56 days prior to course, no refund of deposit.
Cancellations less than 55 days and more than 30 days, before course start date no refund of deposit and 50% of balance of total course fees payable due
Cancellations 29 days or less before the course, full fees due.
Course places are not usually transferable
